Auxiliary Wildland Task Force

The Quadra Island fire department is creating an auxiliary wildland firefighting task force. If your looking for an opportunity to serve and protect your community from wildland fires, we invite you to join our Auxiliary wildland Firefighting task force.

As an auxiliary wildland firefighter, you will receive specialized training in fire prevention, suppression, and emergency response. All your personnel protective equipment will be provided, along with all the resources needed, enabling you to effectively respond to all large wildfire incidents, protecting the Island and its resources.

We will be accepting applications from all residents of Quadra Island who are in good health, willing to work hard, learn new skills, and motivated with a positive attitude to serve and protect our community.

Training will consist of:

  • S-100 - basic fire suppression and safety (2 day course).
  • S-185 - fire entrapment avoidance (2 to 3 hour course).
  • ICS-100 - Incident command system (online course).

Yearly maintenance of skills will consist of the S-100 online refresher course along with 2 hands on scenario based exercises a year, one early spring prior to wildfire season and one in the fall after fire season has finished.
